Percussionists - you will receive your audition time directly from Prof. Viets
Students not currently enrolled in applied study who wish to audition must fill out the form and will need to contact Dr. Johnson for an audition time at [email protected] by August 15th, 2026.
Ensembles are open to anyone with prior instrumental experience, regardless of major!

Brass – Monday, August 17th in PAH - 2nd Floor Old Fine Arts
Low Brass 2:30 - 5:00 pm (approx)
High Brass 5:30 - 7:00 pm (approx)
Woodwinds – Monday, August 17th in Farrell Recital Hall - 3rd Floor Price Doyle Fine Arts Building
Double Reeds - 2:30 - 3:00 (approx)
Clarinets - 3:00 - 4:00 (approx)
Flutes - 4:00 - 4:30 pm (approx)
Saxes - 4:30 - 5:30 pm (approx)
Percussion – Monday, August 17th, 2:30-6:00 pm in the Jazz Suite - 3rd Floor Old Fine Arts

Murray State Bands are proud to announce the creation of the Jackson Purchase Youth Wind Orchestra!

This exciting new ensemble brings together top high school wind and percussion students from across Western Kentucky, West Tennessee, Southern Illinois, and Eastern Missouri. Students will rehearse on Sundays at Murray State in the spring semester (beginning February 1, 2026), work with university faculty and guest artists - including our "composer-in-residence" Tyler S. Grant, and perform advanced wind literature—including the world premiere of a new piece by composer John Fannin.
